St. Philip's holds many special events throughout the year, such as activities for children, open houses, movie nights, and holiday celebrations. The activities are listed in chronological order with the most recent listed first. All activities are open to the community, so come and join us!

Cub Scouts Clean Up Parking Lot 2010

Commitment Sunday and Celebration Sunday 2010

On Commitment Sunday, more than $262,000 was pledged for the 2010 year. On the following Sunday, St. Philippians celebrated the completion of the campaign with a lunch sponsored by the Finance Committee and in suppor tof the Youth Mission trip. Health Kits for Haiti 2010

The Evangelism Committee and various individual and Sunday School Classes have been putting together health kits to be sent to United Methodist Commission On Relief, which will then deliver to Haiti as a part of the humanitarian effort. An Evening in Old Bethlehem 2009

On Sunday, December 20, St. Philip's was transformed into old Bethlehem for its Second Annual event of An Evening in Old Bethlehem. Thanks to many people who set up, played a part, or furnished goods and material, the hundreds who showed up were pleasantly welcomed back to the time of Jesus' birth.  The photos at the following link show all aspects of the transformation:  Old Bethlehem

Hanging of the Greens 2009

On the first Advent Sunday, November 29, the Hanging of the Greens service was held. This was a special event in that the Chrismon Tree was decorated during a blended service. Following the service, the Youth served lunch for the congregation as a fund-raiser. A few representative photos of the day's activities are shown below:

Home Coming - Game Night 2009

On Sunday, St. Philip's held Home Coming, inviting old member, neighbors and friends to come to church. Refreshemnts and old photos from the past were the highlight of the day. Burning of the Sanctuary Renovation Promissory Note 2009

On Sunday, with the help of the children, we burned the retired promissory note taken out for the Sanctuary Renovation project in 2004. The $306,000 note was paid off one month in advance of the due date. The Finance Committee appreciates the efforts on the Sanctuary Renovation and Capital Campaign Committees, as well as the entire congregation for making our project a success. Hidden Treasures 2009

During the month of August, Monna Rector developed a Hidden Treasures series, wherein various members of the congregation displayed their cullinary expertise, preparing dinner and telling stories about their experiences in life. Circuit Rider Band 2009

While the Chancel Choir has been off for the month of July, special music has been presented. The Circuit Rider Band performed on July 18 at the 11:00 am service. Below are two photos of the band:

Christmas in July 2009

Yes, some Sunday, July 19, was like Christmas in July, with a Christmas tree in the Narthex of the Sanctuary, surrounded by all kinds of food items that were delivered to Bering Omega House, located at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church. Below are two photos showing all the food collected:

Vacation Bible School 2009

Some 35 kids and 20 adults had a wonderful week of fun at VBS. Each evening, they all had a snack supper, followed by a skit and singing. As a part of the Crocodile Dock program, the kids broke into three groups and either had a story, participated in a story, prepared a craft, or played some games. The groups rotated so everyone had a chance to participate in all activites. Some representative photos of the event are shown below:

July 4th Celebration 2009

A wonderful celebration of our country's independence was celebrated at the church, with special music sung by the chancel choir, free hotdogs prepared by the men, games for the kids, and lots of visiting. Some representative photos of the event are shown below:

ESL 2009

The ESL classes are off for the summer. During the years, a large number of students from all over the world attended classes offered by St. Philip's and dedicated teachers. Below are photos of a group and one of the couples:

Youth Mission Trip 2009

Seventeen youth and adults went to the Four Corners of the U.S., staying in churches along their route to and from Arizona. They taught Vacation Bible School, played games and did repairs to a small church. The photos below are representative of their week:

Eggstravaganza 2009

The Easter time was filled with lots of activities for the entire family. On Palm Sunday, the children of St. Philip's and the entire neighborhood had a wonderful time at the annual Eggstravaganza. Below are photos from that event:

5th Sunday Activities 2009

On March 29, we had a wonderful combined worship service, with music presented by the Chancel Choir, Philip's Joy and the band, as well as the handbell group. Bible were given to some of the children and the Day School families were recognized. Following the service, the St. Philip's Youth group prepared and served hamburgers. It was a grand day in the life of our church.

Soup for the Lenten Soul 2009

During the five weeks of Lent, we had a Soup for the Lenten Soul meditation series conducted by various lay persons in the church. Preceding each program, approximately 50 members and guest enjoyed soup. Below is a photo of one of the groups led by Mary Pena.

Great Day of Service - 2008

Independence Day Celebration 2007

The Second Annual Independence Day Celebration was held on July 1 on the church grounds. The event included free hotdogs, a patriotic musical salute to July 4th and topped off with a 20-minute fireworks display with patriotic music.

Senior Field Trip 2006

A number of the seniors took a field trip on the County Precinct bus to see the Ben Franklin exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science on December 13, 2006. Below is a picture of the group.

Souper Bowl of Sharing - 2007

Sunday, February 4, was a "souper" day in that a tailgating party preceded the big game. Fun and fellowship was had by all. Around 5:00 pm, everyone gathered in the Fellowship Hall to get ready for the Super Bowl game on the big screen. Prior to and during intermission, some entertained themselves playing games.

Garage Sale 2007

We held a garage sale on Saturday, November 19 in the church parking lot and in the Sanctuary. What a fun day of trading stories and household items as well.

Saturday Morning Book Club

Come join us for our book club. All meetings are held in the Library (Room 103).

Movie Night 2007

At times throughout the year, we get together to enjoy a family movie night. On Sunday, December 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, we got together to watch Christmas with the Kranks in the Fellowship Hall. A light supper, popcorn, and sodas was served.

UMM's Church-wide Dinner 2007

Each December, the men of the church sponsor a dinner for the entire church, with entertainment.  This year, the men sold out their tickets and Barbara Jennings did her One Woman Broadway show for the audience.
