Youth (Ages 11 to 18)
The youth are very important to the world today, and to our church. We focus on how to help youth adjust to being youth and prepare them to become strong men and women of God. Our youth participate in many ways:
- Serve as ushers in the worship service
- Go on mission trips
- Meet as a group on Sunday mornings
- Have parties and fellowship projects
- Support the large church projects
- Go to youth retreats
- Sponsor Souper Bowl of Caring and semi-annual garage sales
- Help with the Trustee’s Work Day projects around the church
- Conduct the Easter Sunrise Service, hold a Community Garage Sale
- Act as team leaders in Vacation Bible School and Summer Fun Days
- Sell calendars to raise money for their mission trips
- Host a Stockholders Luncheon for those who buy shares for their mission trip
- Provide 5th Sunday luncheons to the congregation
Youth Sunday School and SPYRIT Group
Join us each Sunday morning in the Youth Room (Room 109) during Sunday School. Our Youth group also gathers in the Youth Room (109-110) at 11:30 am. We work on breaking free from what the world tells us we have to do and learning what it means to truly be Free.
Giving back to the community is an aspect of youth service our kids truly enjoy. During our mission trips, the youth have worked hard during the day painting, building, cleaning, landscaping, and many other types of jobs. Nightly, there is worship and then organized activities. For example, the 2013 & 2014 Youth mission trips took us to San Marcos, TX. There they teamed up with five other church youth groups from Texas and Louisiana to perform a variety of home-site remodeling jobs.” During the summer of 2015 we focused our attention on our local community. We offered our services in support of food and clothing pantries, donated time and efforts at a second-hand resale shop, and prepared, organized, and helped distribute to over 2500 elementary/middle school students in back-to-school supplies and clothing kits. As a result of these experience our youth have a deeper understanding of what serving another really means. For more information from this adventure, see the Mission Trips 2013-2014 article. Children (Ages 1 to 11)
The children of St. Philip’s have an opportunity to be a part of the worship service through the Children’s Sermon, Palm Sunday celebration, Vacation Bible School, the Children’s Choir, and several children-specific programs. On occasion, we offer fun activities for children, like Veggie Tales previews, family movie nights, and more!
The children of St. Philip’s and their friends sing on Special Sundays at both services. They practice under the direction of our minister of music twice a month in the Sanctuary. If you have a child in Kindergarten-Middle School and have a question regarding “Kids Sing”, feel free to contact Barbara Jennings through the church office. For more information, see Music at St. Philip’s.
Halloween Happening and Easter Eggstravaganza
St. Philip’s celebrates the holidays with children’s activities, including games, crafts, and many other things. These are supported by many people in the church, and are some of the most loved events for all. To view photos and information about these events, see News from the Holidays.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer we host a VBS for young children in our church and community. We always have a great time, and learn a lot about God. For more information, see Vacation Bible School.
