Can you believe it? This Sunday we begin the Advent season with the Hanging of the Greens. We begin to look forward to Christmas, to the celebration of the coming of Christ into the darkness of the world.
The question I hear a lot and have already begun to ask my family is, “What do you want for Christmas?” It is typically a question that has to do with Christmas shopping, but I think during this Advent season, we need to answer that question at a deeper level. So, here’s my list: I wish for happiness for my children and their families. I wish that those searching for purpose and meaning in life will find it. I wish those who are imprisoned by their fears or addictions will receive freedom. I wish for reconciliation for those who are estranged from loved ones. I wish for peace on earth. It seems like a lot. None of these things can be purchased at any store for any price, but all can be found in Christ for free.
