Fishermans club began June 26, 1958. Ideas of forming a Methodist Men’s Club were discussed and a motion was made by Mr. Pearce to form a Methodist Men’s Club, seconded by Mr. Swango and approved by the Board. The Methodist Men’s club began with Mr. Lee Underwood as Chairman.
Servant Leadership, as modeled by Jesus Christ, is set forth as the goal for which we strive as United Methodist Men. We invite every man to begin the journey with us, as we become servant leaders together.
“Lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through our steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
The United Methodist Men’s Organization meets on the third Monday evening of each month, unless otherwise designated. All meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. for dinner, followed by a program of general interest to the group. Each month, our Program Chairman provides a speaker for the meeting.
A nominal charge of $5 is collected from each attendee to cover the cost of the meal. If any profit is incurred, it is used for donations made by the organization throughout the year.
This year, the office of president is Larry Walker. The Treasurer is Allen Grant.
During the course of the year, the UMM organization has held events to raise money for various projects it may wish to support. Around July 4th, the UMM celebrate the holiday by holding a family event, including hamburgers, hot dogs, games and dessert. Throughout the year, extra money is contributed at the UMM dinners and profits from the meals serviced each month are also used for projects.
Events and Projects
As indicated by the Fund Raiser section, the men have held several events and had a number of projects to support our church, including the Independence Day Celebration and VBS. The UMM usually sponsors an Annual Christmas Dinner in the Fellowship Hall.
