St. Philip’s provides opportunities for children and youth of all ages to be active in all aspects of the church. Youth (Ages 11-18)
The youth are very important to the world today, and to our church. We focus on how to help our youth adjust to being pre-teens and teens and prepare them to become strong young men and women of God.
Our youth participate in many ways:
SPYRIT Group Meetings
Join us each Sunday afternoon in the Youth Room (Room 109) at 5:00 pm. We socialize, play games, have a lesson that corresponds to what society is doing and what the Bible says about it, and we just kinda chill. We just want to provide a safe environment for taking the issues of today and simply discuss how they affect us all.
Mission Trip
Giving back to the community is an aspect of youth service our kids truly enjoy. During our past mission trips, the youth have worked hard during the day painting, sawing, cutting, building, cleaning, landscaping, and many other renovation jobs. Nightly, there is worship and organized activities. For example, the 2017 youth mission trip took us to San Marcos, TX. There they teamed up with five other church youth groups from Texas and Louisiana to perform a variety of home-site remodeling jobs.” During the summer of 2015 we focused our attention on our local community. We offered our services in support of food and clothing pantries, donated time and efforts at a second-hand resale shop, and prepared, organized, and helped distribute to over 2500 elementary/middle school students with back-to-school supplies and clothing kits. As a result of these experiences, our youth have a deeper understanding of what serving others really means. For more information from this adventure, see the Mission Trips 2013-2014 article. Children (Ages 1-11)
The children of St. Philip’s have an opportunity to be a part of the worship service through the Children’s Sermon, Palm Sunday celebration, Vacation Bible School, the Children’s Choir, and several children-specific programs. On occasion, we offer fun activities for children, like Veggie Tales previews, family movie nights, and more!
Kids Sing
The children of St. Philip’s and their friends sing on Special Sundays at both services. They practice under the direction of our minister of music twice a month in the Sanctuary. If you have a child in Kindergarten-Middle School and have a question regarding “Kids Sing”, feel free to contact Barbara Jennings through the church office. For more information, see Music at St. Philip’s.
Halloween Happening and Easter Eggstravaganza
St. Philip’s celebrates the holidays with children’s activities, including games, crafts, and many other things. These are supported by many people in the church, and are some of the most loved events for all. To view photos and information about these events, see News from the Holidays.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer we host a VBS for young children in our church and community. We always have a great time, and learn a lot about God. For more information, see Vacation Bible School.
