Actors Sought for Community Theater Christmas Play
St. Philips United Methodist Church is hosting a community theater event and is looking for actors of all ages—kindergarten to adults.
“Upon a Star,” under the direction of author Ryan Pennington, is an exciting, whimsical retelling of the familiar Christmas Story. The musical is a story of the Three Wise Men told in a unique and unconventional way. Three unlikely characters, in different parts of the world and each in different situations in life, convene, drawn by a distant shimmering star. During their travels, they discover that their intertwined destinies will change the course of humanity for all eternity.
The play features a cast of crazy characters—Don Quixote, the Monkey King, and The Fonz among others. There are also non-speaking roles and musical numbers; that way everyone can participate! Open Auditions are September 21st and 22nd from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm at St. Philip’s UMC, 5501 Beechnut@Renwick. “Upon a Star” will be performed on Sunday, December 15th in the evening. This event is open to all: budding to experienced actors, to stagehands, to those who just want to help. Mr. Pennington, a local high school music teacher who operates a private music studio in the Meyerland area, is the organist at St. Philip’s UMC. He is enthusiastic about working with anyone who is interested in being a part of this exciting opportunity!
